the fourth month in a row that Nintendo
becomes the leader in console selling. Nintendo
Wii and the Nintendo DS were the
two consoles that registered top sale in this year's fourth month.
It is worth mentioning that the Japanese console seller managed to sell 675,000 Wii consoles in May and about 453,000 DS in the same period. The two consoles were followed by Sony's Play Station 3, with fewer than 209,000 units sold, and Xbox, 186,000 units of which were sold by the software giant, Microsoft.

Software to Identify Copying from Internet
A Japanese scientist claims he was able
to develop computer software that
can electronically identify whether an academic paper featured passages that
were copied and pasted from the Internet.
The name of the researcher is Kazunari Sugimitsu. He works as an engineering professor and director of the Research Center for Intellectual Property Science at Kanazawa Institute of Technology. According to Mr. Sugimitsu he applied for a patent for the computer software in February 2008 and hopes to start selling it next year.
Microsoft to Implement Use of ODF
Microsoft's officials mentioned that the company is going to apply the Open Document Format (ODF), "sometime next year".
"It's a step in the right direction but we are skeptical about how open Microsoft will be," commented the representatives of the Free Software Foundation Europe.
Greenery Improves the Health of Office Workers
Recent
study found that potted plants can improve the health of office workers. Plants
clear out the stress, thus reducing
the number of sick days that the workers take. The study was performed by the researchers
from the Agricultural University of
Norway. Its result serves as evidence that plants in the working place are
good for the office environment, benefiting the health of workers.
Tina Bringslimark, expert in environmental psychology, analyzed 305 office workers activating in 3 offices. Each office had a differing amount of greenery.
Global Space Spending Accounted $251 billion in 2007
The
analysis presented on April 8, 2008, showed that the revenues from the worldwide government as well as private expenditures on space projects registered an 11 percent
increase and reached $251 billion, though many countries have shown a slowdown
in the growth of their economy.
Inventors of DNA, Optical Amplifier and LED Shortlisted for Millennium Technology Prize
The inventor who came up with the idea of creating a DNA
fingerprinting will lead the shortlist for the very important Millennium
Technology Prize.
Both, Professor Alec Jeffreys and Professor David Payne, who was the co-inventor of an optical amplifier, a device that revolutionized telecommunications, are on the list. Among other finalists there are the co-inventors of Professor Payne, Prof Emmanual Desurvire and Dr. Randy Giles.
