sony_play_station_3 The Japanese giant Sony cut its prices for a software development kit, which designers use for creating Play Station 3 games, by half.

This encouragement of Sony for its game designers follows the company's price cut last month on the console itself.

It is worth mentioning that despite the fact that PS2 ruled the market, the new generation console has to face such opponents as Nintendo Wii.

It's obvious that good sales of PS3 are crucial for Sony, due to the fact that the console runs the Blu-ray high definition DVD format. The latter is the rival of HD-DVD format.

According to Sony's officials the sale of Play Station 3 increased after its price was cut by $100 in the United States, Europe and Japan.

For the first time at the beginning of the week the sales of PS3 surpassed the sales of Wii.

It's worth noting that Sony's console is technologically more advanced than Wii, however, this fact implies certain difficulties such as creating new games.

Today a lot of companies that previously designed games for PS2 are currently launching their versions for the Wii.

The company's officials believe that the price cut will motivate software developers to cooperate with Sony and design more games for its console.
