Japan's officials look forward to set aside $10 billion for further five years in order to provide help to developing countries regarding the fight against global warming.

According to Nikkei business daily the country hopes to cut greenhouse gas emissions in such countries as Indonesia and China.

The country's officials stated that Tokyo was to prepare an aid package, however, some details on this are still being worked out. It is worth mentioning that in 2008 Japan chairs the Group of Eight and one of its main goals is to prioritize climate change during this year's summer summit.

The Nikkei daily said that Japan's aid package, which would be announced later this month, would be offered as grants of low-interest loans. Just like the cuts for green house gas emissions, the package would be used for combating disasters that occurred due to global warming. Japan also hopes to help setting alternative energy resources.

The aid package would also be helpful in improving the effectiveness of coal-fired power stations located in China. Japan's government spokesman stated that currently that the plan is in the process of development and thus it's not yet finalized.

"We have yet to decide what the exact contents of the aid package would be and it is undecided when Prime Minister Fukuda will make the announcement," foreign ministry spokesman Takeshi Akamatsu told AFP, French news agency.
